What to Expect at Your First Visit to Highest Health Chiropractic
Deciding to visit a chiropractor for the first time can feel like a big step, especially if you are not sure what the experience will be like. Maybe you have heard about chiropractic care from a friend or family member, read about it online, or simply reached a point where you know something needs to change with your health. Whatever brought you here, we want you to know that your first visit to Highest Health Chiropractic in Sioux Falls is designed to be comfortable, informative, and completely different from what you might expect.
We know that first visits can come with questions and maybe even a little nervousness. That is completely normal. Here is a step-by-step look at what your experience will be like so you can walk through our doors feeling confident and prepared.
Step 1: A Warm Welcome
From the moment you arrive at our office on West 57th Street, our team is here to make you feel at home. We believe that healing happens best in an environment where you feel safe, valued, and cared for. You will be greeted by our front desk team, who will help you with any initial paperwork and answer any questions you have about what comes next.
We encourage you to arrive a few minutes early so you can settle in without feeling rushed. If you have health records, imaging, or notes from previous providers that you would like to share, feel free to bring those along. They are not required, but they can be helpful as we learn about your health history.
Step 2: Your One-on-One Consultation
Your visit begins with a personal consultation with one of our doctors. This is not a quick intake form review. It is a real conversation where we take the time to listen to your story. We want to understand not just what symptoms you are experiencing, but how long they have been going on, what you have tried before, how your health challenges are affecting your daily life, and what your goals are for care.
Whether you are coming in because of chronic pain, recurring headaches, a child who is struggling with focus or behavior, pregnancy discomfort, or simply a desire to be healthier, this is the time to share all of it. Every detail matters because it helps our doctors understand the full picture of what your body has been through and what it needs.
We also use this time to explain our approach. Highest Health Chiropractic is a neurologically-based practice, which means our focus is on the health and function of your nervous system rather than simply chasing symptoms. If that sounds different from what you have experienced elsewhere, we will walk you through exactly what that means and why it matters.
Step 3: Your Nervous System Scan
This is the part of your first visit that sets us apart from most chiropractic offices. After your consultation, we perform a comprehensive scan of your nervous system using our Insight Millennium scanning technology. This is a Space Foundation-certified system that measures patterns of stress, tension, and interference along your spine.
The scan itself is completely painless and non-invasive. A small sensor is gently moved along the surface of your spine while you sit comfortably. The process takes just a few minutes, and there is no radiation, no discomfort, and nothing to be nervous about. Children and even newborns are scanned using this same technology.
What the scan reveals is powerful. Rather than relying on how you feel, which only tells part of the story, the scan gives us objective data about how your nervous system is actually functioning. It shows us exactly where subluxations are creating interference, how severe that interference is, and which areas of your body are being affected. For many new practice members, seeing their scan results for the first time is an eye-opening experience. It often explains symptoms and patterns they have been dealing with for years.
Step 4: Your Doctor’s Report
Once your consultation and scan are complete, your doctor will sit down with you to review everything together. This is called your Report of Findings, and it is one of the most important parts of the process. During this report, your doctor will walk you through your scan results, explain what the data means in plain language, and show you exactly where and how your nervous system is being affected.
Based on your history, your goals, and the objective findings from your scan, your doctor will then outline a care plan that is specific to your body. This is not a generic program. Your care plan is built around what your nervous system needs, and it is designed to move you through the phases of correction at the pace that is right for you.
We believe in full transparency, so this is also the time to ask any questions you have about your care, your timeline, or how the process works. Our doctors want you to feel informed and empowered every step of the way.
Step 5: Your First Adjustment
If your doctor determines that you are ready to begin care at your first visit, you will receive your first adjustment. For many of our new practice members, this is the moment that changes their perception of what chiropractic care can be.
All four of our doctors, Dr. Nate, Dr. Bailee, Dr. Dave, and Dr. Sarah, hold Advanced Proficiency Certification in the Torque Release Technique. Every adjustment at our office is delivered using the Integrator instrument, a handheld device that provides a gentle, precise impulse at a speed of 1/10,000th of a second. There is no twisting, no cracking, and no sudden movements. The adjustment is quick, comfortable, and often so gentle that new practice members are surprised by how simple it feels.
After your first adjustment, you may notice a sense of relaxation, lightness, or calm. Some people feel an immediate difference, while others notice changes gradually over their first few visits. Both responses are completely normal and reflect how your body is beginning to respond to the correction.
What to Wear and How to Prepare
There is no special preparation required for your first visit. We recommend wearing comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. Avoid heavy belts, bulky jewelry, or anything that might make it difficult to lie down comfortably. If you are bringing a child, feel free to bring a favorite toy or comfort item to help them feel at ease.
The most important thing you can bring is an open mind. Many of our practice members come to us after years of trying other approaches, and they are often surprised by how different our process feels. We are not here to replace what you have tried before. We are here to add something to your health journey that may have been missing.
Common Questions New Practice Members Ask
We hear many of the same questions from first-time visitors, and we are always happy to answer them:
- Does it hurt? No. The Torque Release Technique is one of the gentlest adjusting methods available. Most people find the experience relaxing and comfortable.
- How long does the first visit take? Plan for approximately 45 minutes to an hour, which gives us plenty of time for your consultation, scan, report, and first adjustment.
- Do you see children and babies? Absolutely. Some of our youngest practice members are just days old, and we love caring for entire families.
- What if I am pregnant? We welcome expecting moms at every stage of pregnancy. Three of our doctors are Webster Technique certified for prenatal care.
- Do I need a referral? No referral is needed. You can schedule your first visit directly.
